Alexis is the visionary behind Naftilus. He brings to the table vast knowledge and experience in the field of insurance, as he has contributed to the insurance sector throughout his career as an Insurance Broker with Marsh & McLennan, Commercial Property, Marine Risks Underwriter and claims manager with "The Ethniki Insurance AEEGA", for almost 20 years having been familiarized with insurance from various aspects claims, sales Underwriting.
He is the author of the book "Commercial Property Insurance and Business Interruption". He studied in Piraeus University Business Administration, and received an Master of Science Diploma in "International Strategic Management" at Staffordshire University and Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). He holds a Diploma from the Chartered Insurance Institute of London (CIIL) and is a certified Negotiator from the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). He is also a regular lecturer of the Hellenic Institute of Insurance Studies (EIAS) on commercial insurance and negotiation topics.
George has 45 years of professional experience in the insurance services sector. He is the Founder and Managing Partner of Karavias Underwriting Agency, a leading insurance broker firm in Greece operating as Coverholder at Lloyd’s for several binding authorities. As an Underwriter, he has the authority of Lloyd’s syndicates to underwrite risks up to €25.000.000. Before starting his own company, he successfully held senior executive positions within the Reed Stenhouse Group as a Managing Director of the Greek subsidiary (1981-1986), and in the UK (1975-1981) where he worked as a Broker, placing special risks with Lloyd’s and in the London Insurance Market. George Karavias is also a founding member of the Hellenic Association of Insurance Brokers (HIBA). Since 2008 he has been serving as the Chairman of HIBA, elected for eight consecutive years. In his institutional capacity, he has interfaced and consulted the Regulatory Authorities at the Bank of Greece, the Ministry of Finance, and the Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies. He holds a Diploma in Insurance & Shipping from the London School of Foreign Trade and he has served his military obligations as an officer
